The ongoing emergency sitting of the UI SRC 9th assembly witnessed an uproar as the Executive council demanded for the sum of N1,275,000 as the total amount incurred for the use of airtime by members of the council for the past 15 months.
The demand was made by the Union President, Adewole Adeyinka Mascot, while presenting the reimbursement budget of the executive.
“For the past 15 months, the office of the president has spent N15,000 monthly totaling the sum of N225,000 while the other seven executive members have spent N10,000 monthly for the past 15 months totaling the sum of N1,050,000,” he said.
The demand has generated heated forth and back among members of the house with some asserting that it is not “justifiable” and that the executive should consider the purse of the union in their demand. However, some members believe the demand is reasonable.
The total amount being demanded for by the executive in its reimbursement budget is N2,161,750.
The scrutinization of the executive reimbursement budget which kicked off around 1pm is still ongoing.
