How to excel in Broadcast: UCJ UI Hosts Two-Day Webinar on Broadcast Journalism

The Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan, hosted a two-day broadcast journalism training titled “Exploring the Media Space through Broadcast Journalism” on Saturday, 13th June and Sunday, 14th June 2026. The training, which was organised as an online webinar and hosted on Google Meet, was open to all students, whether campus journalists or not.

The first session, which started at 6:00 p.m. and was moderated by Grace Alifa, was delivered by Miss Joy Kangmwa Gofwen, who currently works with Spearhead, a Pan-African independent media platform. Miss Joy unpacked the topic “Exploring the Media Space through Broadcast Journalism while in school”. In her discussion, she emphasised that students should start small, use their skills to tell stories that matter, build on their strengths, excel in their chosen paths and learn to evolve, amongst other insights.

Joy Esther Olu-Ajayi moderated the second session, which took place on the 14th of June 2026 and commenced by 6:05 p.m., and was facilitated by Mr Michael Olatubosun, who is well established name in the media space, currently working at Splash FM 105, and an alumnus of the UCJ. Mr Michael, in his session, explored the topic from the standpoint of journalism both inside and outside school.

He emphasised the need for students to get active in journalism right from their early school days and encouraged students to pursue internships, volunteer to gain experience and continuously build their capacity, amongst other valuable lessons.

The two sessions ended with an interactive question-and-answer segment, during which participants engaged the speakers.

This training was done in line with UCJ’s mandate to build the capacity of its members and also expose them to what is expected of good campus journalism while being exposed to the opportunities which abound in journalism.
