The University of Ibadan Health Service has cautioned female students against considering egg donation as a means of financial gain.
In a memorandum dated April 15, 2025, the Health Director noted a growing trend of female students participating in IVF as egg donors.
While acknowledging that egg donation has brought hope to many families struggling with infertility, the Director emphasized that it should not be considered a permanent source of income or alternative “side hustle.”

The advisory highlighted potential health implications, including abdominal pain, breast tenderness, bloating, mood swings, and Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS).
Students were however, advised to seek professional medical advice before considering egg donation, prioritizing their health and well-being.
