Reports alleging that Aisha, a 100-level Agricultural student and resident of Queen Idia Hall, was locked up for allegedly refusing to support certain aspirants in the ongoing University of Ibadan Students’ Union election have been disputed.
According to Aisha, “I was called earlier this morning to come; that 001 wants to see me.”
However, contrary to claims circulating among students, Aisha said she was not locked up and that her phone was not taken.
“We were told not to use or press our phones during the meeting,” she said.
Those present at the meeting included the Hall Chairperson, Mudashiru Oyindamola; Sarah Adelabu, the Stakeholder Chairman; Yakubu Eniola, the Vice Hall Chairperson; and Esan Olayemi, a former Idia Hall executive and Vice President-elect of the Faculty of Agriculture, alongside other individuals.
Aisha further explained that the discussion centred on prioritising the hall’s interests and encouraging residents to support certain candidates. The message could also be interpreted as a subtle campaign in favour of particular aspirants.
The development comes amid conversations surrounding hall influence, political preferences and students’ freedom to support candidates of their choice in the ongoing Students’ Union election.
