UI to establish TV Station

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka has inaugurated a planning committee for the establishment of a Television broadcast station in the University.

This committee was inaugurated during a senate meeting which held at the Senate Chambers recently; the Vice Chancellor officially presented the planning committee headed by Prof. Yahya of Agricultural Engineering department, to the Senate.

At the meeting, members of the committee as well as the University Principal officers in attendance, discussed among other things; the limitations and possible solutions which are key to achieving success with the project.

Prof. Olayinka also mentioned that he has met with the Minister of Information while on a flight to Abuja some weeks ago where he discussed the plan of the University to have a Community Television Station. However, he said that the Minister has promised to support the project in every way he can.

When called to comment on the project plans, Prof. Yahya, the convener ofUniversity of Ibadan the committee who also doubled as a team member of UI radio, explained that cogent steps such as interacting with National Broadcasting Commission(NBC) have to be taken by the Committee before they can turn in their reports for actions to be taken.

The members of this committee include: Folorunsho Ogundare, Department of Physics and Chairman of ITeMS board; Prof. Ayobami Ojebode, Department of Communication and Language Arts; Dr O A Fakolujo, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering; Dr I. A. Kamil, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering; Dr Ayotola Aremu, Department of Teacher Education & Director, CEI; Dr Fadekemi Oyewusi, Centre for Educational Media and Resource Studies; Mr Paul Anthony Emokare, Station Manager, Diamond FM; Mr Ademolu Okuneye, NTA Ibadan. The Convener/Chairman and Secretary of the Committee are Prof. M. K. Yahaya, Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development and Dr Adetunji Babarinde, Department of Economics and Director Designate DLC.
