Opts for LSS Presidency
A Vice Presidential hopeful of the University of Ibadan Students’ Union election, Gift Agboro, has stepped down from the race, rumours have it.
It was said that Ms Agboro, a 400L student of the Faculty of Law and a resident of Queen Idia Hall stepped down as a result of pressure from powers-that-be in the Union politics, most especially the heavyweights behind the candidature of her two opponents.
It must be noted that Gift is probably the only candidate that has not declared her intention to contest in the forthcoming Students’ Union election, the politics of which ban was lifted on Wednesday, 23rd March, 2016.
Rumours have it in some quarters that the decision was primarily influenced by the withdrawal of Ms Agboro’s Campaign Manager, Paul Okafor, who is believed to nurse ambition of contesting the chairmanship of Kuti Hall.
To further support the rumour, the Hall Chairperson for Idia Hall, Ms. Gbemisola Tolorunleke, took to the Students’ Union Facebook Group today to declare her support for Okunsanmi Aderoju, the other Vice Presidential aspirant coming from the hall.
UCJUI also gathered that Ms Agboro is being appeased to take the presidency of Law Students’ Society LSS as a compensation for stepping down from the race for another candidate.
All efforts to get through to Gift Agboro to authenticate these claims proved abortive as she neither picked the calls made to her nor returned them and the same goes for Mr. Okafor, her Campaign Manager.
