The University of Ibadan has released the approved calendar, nomination fees and eligibility requirements for the 2026/2027 Students’ Union electoral process.
The details were contained in a memorandum issued on Friday, September 18, 2026, by the Deputy Registrar (Students), Francis A. Ayodele, following the inaugural meeting of the Electoral Commissioners held on Thursday, September 17.
According to the calendar, the lifting of the electoral ban and sensitisation was scheduled for Friday, September 18, while collection and submission of nomination forms for Students’ Union Executive positions will run from Monday, September 21, to Friday, October 2.
Background checks are scheduled for October 2 to 16, while candidate screening will hold on Saturday, October 24. Press Night is scheduled for Wednesday, October 28, followed by Speech Night on Friday, October 30.
The election of Students’ Union Executive officers is scheduled for Saturday, October 31, 2026.
A separate timetable was released for the election of Students’ Representative Council (SRC) members. Collection and submission of SRC nomination forms will run from Monday, September 21, to Monday, November 2. Background checks are scheduled for November 2, with candidate screening to hold on November 3 and 4.
The SRC election is scheduled for Saturday, November 7, 2026.
The guidelines state that candidates for university-level student leadership positions must not be in 100 level or their final year, while presidential aspirants must be in the penultimate year of their programmes.
The newly released guidelines also stipulate a minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a four-point scale for candidates seeking the Students’ Union Executive positions and the specified SRC leadership positions listed in the guidelines. For other SRC positions, the minimum is 2.00 on a four-point scale and 2.50 on a five-point scale. Students whose programmes do not operate a CGPA system will have their scores prorated for the purpose of determining eligibility.
The guidelines further require aspirants to have an unblemished record and specify conditions relating to disciplinary records, including conviction by the police, rustication or expulsion, ejection from a hall of residence and substance abuse. They also state that aspirants must abide by the rule of law and be of sound mind.
Nomination fees are ₦10,000 for the Students’ Union President, ₦8,000 for the Vice President, ₦7,000 for other Executive positions and ₦3,000 for SRC positions.
Candidates are required to submit evidence of payment alongside their nomination forms.
The accreditation date was not stated in the released calendar. Further details on the electoral process are expected through subsequent communications from the Electoral Commission and the University.
