The Kegites Club, University of Ibadan, on Thursday, 27th November, 2025, held its Green Capito Day, marking the official commencement of activities for its 2025/2026 Keg Week celebration. The day featured a lineup of events, including an Awareness rally across campus, a scheduled courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, and a Press conference.
Members of the club returned from the rally a few minutes before 6 p.m. Although a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor had been planned, it could not be held due to the Vice-Chancellor’s absence at the time.
The Press conference commenced at exactly 6:23 p.m., with the Chief of the club, Olanshile Ogunrinu, delivering the opening address. In his remarks, he warmly welcomed attendees and gave a brief overview of the Kegites Club and its cultural significance. He also presented a detailed rundown of the activities lined up for the Keg Week.
According to him, this year’s Keg Week will span six days, culminating in the coronation of the 54th Chief of the Club on January 10, 2026, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall Cafeteria.
A major highlight of the schedule is the Palm Wine Conference, set to be held on January 9, 2026. Described as the first of its kind, the conference will feature intellectual discussions on African culture, covering governance, education, tradition, and customs—delivered by eminent scholars. The event is being organised in partnership with the Institute of African Studies and will be held at the Lady Bank Anthony Hall of the Institute.
Keg Week Schedule:
- Day 1 – 27th November 2025: Green Capito Day
- Day 2 – 5th January 2026: Career Talk & Employability Training
- Day 3 – 6th January 2026: CSR Day
- Day 4 – 7th January 2026: Games Day
- Day 5 – 9th January 2026: Palm Wine Conference
- Grand Finale – 10th January 2026: Coronation Ceremony of the 54th Chief of the Club
The noticeable gap between Day 1 and the subsequent activities, the Chief explained, is due to adjustments in the University’s academic calendar. The remaining events were scheduled for early 2026 to ensure they were held after students’ examinations.
The Chief also emphasised that membership in the Kegites Club is open to all University of Ibadan students, without any distinction between regular and Distance Learning students.
