Following the accident on February 20, 2025, at the University of Ibadan, which left a female student severely injured, officials have confirmed that the student, Miss Adetayo Aderemi, a 200-level Psychology student at the Distance Learning Center, is now in a stable health condition.
After the accident, Adetayo was initially taken to Jaja Clinic before being transported to the University College Hospital (UCH), where she was initially denied admission due to lack of available beds. According to an eyewitness and friend, “She was ferried in an ambulance to the Accident and Emergency department, only to be met with a ‘no bed’ report. They were then referred to Police Hospital, Eleyele, but were again unable to secure admission.”
The witness further recounted that Miss Adetayo was eventually taken to Molly Hospital, Idi-Ape, but was redirected to Oyomesi Hospital, a private facility, due to its proximity. However, the nurse accompanying Adetayo was unable to secure approval from her supervisor, leading to a return to UCH.
After hours of negotiation, Miss Adetayo was finally admitted to UCH at about 3 am in the morning, where she received treatment for her injuries, including stitches for her lacerations.
We await further information as we wish her a speedy recovery.
