The Students Representative Council, University of Ibadan on Wednesday, October 27, approved the sum of N892, 000 as the supplementary budget for the executive arm of the Students’ Union.
In an emergency sitting held at the SRC chamber, the members deliberated on the executive supplementary budget and a report by the executive committee.
Most items included on the supplementary budget were said to be expenses incurred during the lockdown.
According to the union’s President, Akeju Olusegun, the Union hosted South West Universities Union Presidents Conference and a total amount of N24,000 was incurred.
He further explained, alongside the union’s treasurer that in a bid to secure possible sponsorship for the union’s programs, executive members traveled to Osun state where the union’s bus broke down, and a sum of N19,000 was incurred for the repair of the bus.
The sum of N638,000 was also presented to the house, as the amount spent on airtime and data subscriptions by the executive members between November 2020 and August 2021.
The sum of N74,000 was reportedly incurred for awards and certificates presented during the union’s press week, while N25,000 was said to have been expended on publicity for a period of five months.
The President and his Vice also reportedly spent N20,000 for attending a UNESCO Students Leaders Conference at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, while N32,000 was incurred for DSTV subscription in one month.
The sum of N60,000 was also included in the supplementary budget as extra expenses incurred on the purchase of a public address system for the union, even though the house had initially approved over N100,000 for the PAS.
The Public Relations Officer of the Union, Oladeji Abiodun explained that the brand of PAS he paid for was not available when he was going to carry it, hence he had to add N60,000 to purchase another brand.
According to Akeju, these funds were not approved in the initial budget of the union and were raised from the personal purses of the executives.
The house approved all items on the supplementary budget as presented by the executive.
