Southampton Football Club Proposes A Football Academy In The University Of Ibadan; The President, UI Alumni Global Network Discloses

Mr. Jamil Eniola, the President, UI Alumni Global Network has disclosed that the Southampton Football Club proposes to have a football academy in the University of Ibadan.

He made this disclosure on Sunday, September 26th during the commissioning of the Student’s Union Viewing and Gaming Centre. The project sponsored by the UI Alumni Global Network, is located at the SUB Foyer.

Mr. Eniola added that the University will host the officials of Southampton Football Club in January 2022 as it will be the first time an English Premier League club will establish a football academy in Nigeria.

The reason for this gesture, Mr. Eniola revealed, was as a result of the University of Ibadan students’ academic excellence in diaspora.

The Dean of Students, Prof. Keye Abiona also confirmed the development, stating that the school is already making moves towards the great opportunity.

During the commissioning, Mr. Eniola urged the students to put the Viewing Centre into better use, harping that social activities should be encouraged on campus asides the normal academic routine.

Present at the event was the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adebola Ekanola, who appreciated the UI Alumni Global Network for sponsoring the project as well as the SU Executives for their improved mannerisms compared to the former administration.

Prof. Ekanola also awarded Mr. Eniola at the tail end of the event.

The event had in attendance SU Executives as well as some members of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC).
