The University of Ibadan Students Union released an update on the 17th of April 2025 concerning the ongoing Medical And Dental Consultant Association strike.

The letter’s introduction portrayed the Union’s appreciation towards the medical and dental students for their resilience, patience and understanding.

The letter also mentioned the recent town hall meeting between the University of Ibadan Medical Students Association (UIMSA) and the University Of Ibadan Association Of Dental Students (UADS) which held 16th of April 2025 and acknowledged the academic and emotional toll the strike has on the students.

In lieu of this, the union affirmed that its stance if the strike remained unsuspended.

“If the strike remains unsuspended, the Student Union expresses its full and unwavering solidarity with UIMSA and UADS to embark on a peaceful demonstration by Wednesday 23 April 2025”.

The Union also used the opportunity to urge all relevant authorities to prioritize the resolution, and pay attention to the ongoing disruption by ensuring that the students resume.

It affirmed its commitment to protecting the academic interests and welfare of all students, and called on relevant authorities, to work on the issue.

Recall that the Students’ Union had cancelled a protest that was to hold earlier this month on April 3rd.

Explaining the reason for calling off the protest, the students’ union executive council in the earlier released memo stated that it had considered ‘recent developments’ as well as taken note of ‘the positive steps taken by other affected universities.’

“This decision comes after a due consideration of recent developments. We have noted the positive steps taken by other affected universities, which have decided to call off the strike. We believe this collective movement signals a strong possibility for a favorable resolution across the board.” The release calling off the strike stated.
