The House Committee on Electoral Matters, chaired by Honourable Gbadegbo Adegbola, on Saturday, 13th of September 2025, requested that the house provide a financial allocation for their activities.

They made this request while presenting a report on the electoral proceedings of last semester.

According to the report, the committee members had performed their duties, which included being “on ground on the day of election and at the venue to monitor how things unfold and also to make sure that the election is free and fair,” with personal funds.

They also reported that the committee wasn’t known enough to the University community, and this resulted in complications when dispensing of their duties.

They urged the house to “create an awareness for the committee within the University,” as well as “make financial allocations for transportation and refreshment of committee members available at electioneering process.”

They further reported that the Committee was not well-informed of the elections in Faculties, as some of this information had to be discovered on social media.

“The committee did not get timely information about elections within the University and this affects the activeness and effectiveness of the committee. Due to lack of timely information, the committee struggles to get members to be available for these elections.” The report read.

They requested the House to mandate faculty president to provide information about upcoming elections in their constituency, at least a week to the day.

“Faculty presidents should make sure that they inform the committee through the house, any faculty or departmental election that is going to take place within their respective faculties at least a week to the start of the electioneering process.” The report read.

This report was based on the TESA and CBN elections held last semester.
