The paper was presented at the freshmen’s orientation program organised by the University of Ibadan on Tuesday, 21st February, 2017. The program was a two-day program organised by the University of Ibadan for the fresh students of the 2016/2017 academic session. The program was organised to officially welcome the fresh students into the university, to introduce them to the senior officials of the university and to intimate them with the norms of the university, among other things.

In his address, he gave a few security tips on how to ensure safety and to avoid punishment by school authority. “Do not join antisocial groups, do not engage in violent protests, do not go on unauthorized journeys, do not buy unauthorized goods for they may be stolen goods”, he said. He recognised students who hang around the university during holidays as criminals who are liable to arrest and punishment. He urged the students to respect one another’s religion, rights and dignity and avoid all acts of misconduct, saying, “The fear of SDC is the beginning of wisdom”. He concluded by advising the students not to lose focus and to remember the sons/daughters of whom they are.

Coupled with this presentation were other papers presented by some senior officials of the university. One was ‘Academic Excellemce: No shortcut here’, presented by Deputy Registrar, Students, Dr. F. I. Etadon, in which he recognised the various shortcuts as bribing examiners in terms of money, gift and physical pleasure, examination malpractices and infringement of the school rules and regulations, among many others.
