NEWS: UCJUI Executives Pay Courtesy Visit To Vice-Chancellor

The Executive Council of the Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan (UCJUI) Chapter, paid a courtesy visit to Prof. Kayode Adebowale, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution on Thursday, June 27th, 2024.

This courtesy visit is part of the current leadership’s effort to seek the continuous support of the University stakeholders and alumni of the union in promoting the ideals of responsible journalism.

Professor Olapegba, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration of the University who received the team on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor charged the union’s executive to continue to prioritize evidence-based reporting.

The President of UCJUI, Tarre Elizabeth, while speaking, appreciated the university management for the support over the years, and asked for the university’s stance on fee hikes. Reacting, the DVC maintained that there would be no reduction, further arguing that what the students are paying, even with the increment, is still not enough to cover the expenses of the school.

“We have done our research and UI even pays the lowest amount of levies among all federal universities. I implore you to do your research as well and then you can come back to argue with your facts and figures,” he added.

Also, the union presented some of the concerns relating to studio fees; moot and mock fees that students paid for but couldn’t access the facilities and in response, the DVC promised to look into the matter and resolve the issue.
