BIAS and the Female Gender

Just this last break, I was talking to my mum about feminism and how the female gender needs to stand up to injustice and harassment against the female gender. However, I was made to shut up because our culture does not encourage the female gender in any way.

This is a society where women are underrepresented, undervalued and underpaid. The irony of this is that we are now civilized and do not live in those ancient and archaic old days now. We claim that our eyes have been opened, our ears can now hear clearly and our mouths speak out everywhere about the injustice done to everyone in the country. However, when it comes to the female gender, the society becomes blind to the women’s plight and deaf to the women’s cries; and then we claim that our culture does not support women standing up to a man, in fact, it condemns it. What a biased culture!

Clueless and unscrupulous people take advantage of women all over the country. Big managers who are supposed to know more abuse their wives’ rights and molest them as if they are not even living. Yet, we say that our culture says that the wife is the property of the husband and the husband belongs to himself. What a biased culture!

Feminists all over the country have tried to correct this but it seems that they are just laboring in vain. Our lawmakers have decided to throw away the Gender Equality Bill just like how they have always done. And yet, we still put the blame on the patriarchal system in the society. Women are told to keep quiet and suffer in silence and we celebrate this as a cultural value. This should not be so!

This culture of exclusion and discrimination against women are made by some people. We can change these values; nothing is static except change. We all should join hands together to make sure both genders are equal. Virginity should not just be impressed upon the lady’s mind; the boys should also be virgins. Whether or not the legislators approve the gender equality bill, let us all continue to fight against all sorts of discrimination and violence against women no matter what our cultural system says.
