BREAKING: UI’SRC Audit Committee Recommends AGS for Disciplinary Action Over Freshers’ Week Financial Discrepancies

The Audit Committee of the University of Ibadan Students’ Representative Council has recommended that the Assistant General Secretary be referred to the disciplinary committee following alleged financial discrepancies discovered in the review of the 2026 Freshers’ Week expenditures.

The recommendation was presented during the ongoing emergency sitting of the council on Thursday night by the Chairperson of the Audit Committee, Hon. Lawal Maryam.

While presenting the committee’s report, Maryam revealed that the committee observed multiple inconsistencies between the approved Freshers’ Week budget, the expenditures claimed by the AGS, and findings documented by the Project and Events Monitoring Committee.

According to the report, several spending records submitted by the AGS reportedly did not correspond with the initially approved budget, while some expenses also conflicted with figures and observations recorded during the monitoring of the programme.

The Audit Committee consequently recommended that the AGS be referred to the disciplinary committee over allegations bordering on possible financial misappropriation, neglect of duty through the late submission of the Freshers’ Week report, and non-compliance with both the Audit Committee and the Project and Events Monitoring Committee.
