At about 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2026, the body of an unidentified young male, estimated to be around 15 years old, was discovered in the swimming pool of the University of Ibadan campus.
Preliminary reports indicate that the deceased is not a student of the university. According to information gathered, the incident is believed to have occurred between the late hours of Wednesday, March 25, and the early hours of Thursday, March 26, 2026.
A pool attendant who resumed duty on Thursday morning reportedly noticed a set of drenched clothes by the poolside. The clothes were set aside under the assumption that their owner would return, as it was not immediately apparent that the individual was already in the pool.
Sources suggest that the deceased may have gained access to the facility by climbing over the fence after it had been closed, as no authorized users were expected at the time. It is further believed that he was alone when the incident occurred.
The body was later discovered and retrieved from the pool, after which the police were contacted. As of the time of this report, the identity of the deceased remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing.
The President of the UI Studentsâ Union, Adeboye Temidayo, has urged students to remain calm and to refrain from spreading unverified information, particularly across social media platforms.
The Studentsâ Union has stated that it remains in communication with the appropriate authorities and will provide verified updates as more information becomes available.
