Comic Con Ibadan and Nexal Gaming Company held a press conference on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the SRC Chamber, University of Ibadan, ahead of the forthcoming Synergy 2025.
The event is scheduled to take place on June 14, 2025, at Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan, by 9 a.m.
According to the organizers, Synergy 2025 is a collaborative initiative between Comic Con Ibadan and Nexal Gaming Company.
It is designed as a fusion of comics, games, and animation, with emphasis on creativity, culture, and community engagement.
The organizers stated that this year’s event will feature campus ambassadors, vendors, exhibitors.
They noted that secondary school students also benefited from similar past editions.
Furthermore, the studios in attendance will organize competitions, with provisions also made for game consoles.
Regarding access, the registration fee for the event is set at ₦1,500.
However, they clarified that University of Ibadan students who signed up will be granted free entry.
The price tag, according to them, was introduced to control attendance, following an unregulated crowd size in the previous edition.
Speaking further, the organizers noted that discussions are ongoing to bring in international collaborators from countries such as the United States and South Africa.
They added that some comic studies from these countries will be showcased at the convention.
In response to a reporter’s question about cosplay, the organizers encouraged participants to attend in costumes from popular characters such as Naruto and Attack on Titan.
They also pointed out that Ibadan is ranked second in Nigeria for comic exhibition locations, stating that exhibitors primarily focus on Lagos and Ibadan when conventions are held.
Additionally, they mentioned that conversations are being held with government stakeholders to introduce the project to grassroots levels.
They emphasized that although the convention is being hosted in Ibadan, it is aimed at African creatives at large, with free participation for UI students who have registered.
Eri Vic, the founder of Comic Con Ibadan, remarked that “growing in the industry is impossible if you don’t know your way.”
He explained that the initiative was designed to help students showcase their talents and potential in the creative and gaming industries.
The organizers also said that the event is tied to the SEALS Cup so that the gaming competition becomes something to anticipate each session.
As for the choice of venue, they explained that Trenchard Hall was selected due to its good ventilation and three large LED screens, which will aid in game projections.
Furthermore, attendees will be provided with tea breaks during the course of the event. Students interested in serving as campus ambassadors can also register through a link that will be made available.
The organizers confirmed that there will be no panel session this year to allow participants to focus fully on the gaming experience.
Registration for the event can be completed through the official link.
