Basic Dues To Be Increased From ₦3,000 To ₦4,000

The SRC has moved for Faculty and Hall Basic Dues to be increased to ₦4000 on April 7th 2025.

Following a long recess during which the Chief Whip of the SRC collated the results of all the polls, the Basic Dues fir faculties and halls have been increased from ₦3,000 to ₦4,000.

After the results of the poll were collated, it was discovered that the total number of students that voted against the increment were 590 and 582 from the Hall and Faculty Constituencies respectively and the number of students who supported the increase were 509 and 668 from the Hall and Faculty Constituencies respectively, all totalling to 1,172 votes against the increment and 1,777 votes supporting the increment.

Rt Honourable Shoge Quadri, Speaker of the House stated that the percentage of those who had agreed to the increase surpassed the dissenters by a slight margin.

“Those that voted for a yes are more than those that voted for a no by a slight margin.” He said.

Meanwhile, Honourable Members moved motions for the increase in Basic Dues.

Honourable Ajayi James moved for an increase from #3,000 – #5,000, but later withdrew it when Hon. Mojoyinola from Bello Hall Constituency made an amendment to the motion, going for #4,000 instead.

Honourables Qudus and Oduola Peter moved for #3,500 and #4,000 respectively and the motions were subject to the votes of the Council.

Twenty-four members voted in support of the Basic Dues increment to #4,000 while 17 other Honourable Members voted for #3,500.

The Speaker of the Council, Rt. Hon. Shoge Quadri relayed the order of the council based on the votes: Basic dues to be increased from #3,000 to #4,000.

Recall that the Heads of Council of Faculty Presidents and Council of Hall Chairpersons had earlier requested an increase in Basic Dues from #3,000 to #4,000.
