The second emergency meeting of the Student Representative Council on the issue of Basic Dues Increment commenced today at 6:15pm.

The results of the polls ordered to be collected on Saturday, April 6 were presented today.

Following this, a Honourable Member moved a motion for the increase of Basic Dues from #3,000 to #4,000, another moved for #3,500 while another moved for #3,000.

Rt Honourable Shoge Quadri replying to the question of why the polls were taken if they were going to be disregarded explained that this was necessary due to the diversity of the poll results among the constituents.

“Different Constituencies have different results. Not all members voted yes, not all members voted no.” He stated.

Honourable Members had misgivings about this method of voting, with one stating that it was unjustifiable to take a poll on Students’ opinions and then move ahead without acting on their opinions.

In consideration of their arguments, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Shoge Quadri instructed the Chief Whip to conduct a thorough collation of the poll results across constituencies.

However, Honourable Felicia Ojo voiced her concerns about respondents who have possibly filled both polls from their Faculty and Hall. She worried that if could detract from the veracity of the poll results.

The Speaker ordered that the collation go on regardless and as at press time, the collation was still in progress.
