FG Mandates Disclosure of Key Institutional Data by Tertiary Institutions

In a press statement released by the Federal Ministry of Education, Nigeria, Nigerian Tertiary Institutions have been mandated to publish on their websites, key institutional data.

The order, credited to the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, mandates each institution to provide detailed breakdown of their expenditure in line with their Annual Budgetary Allocation.

They are to do this across three core areas including Personnel cost, Overhead cost and Capital Expenditure.

They are also to reveal their Research Grant Revenue for the previous year, both from domestic bodies (local industries, foundations and government agencies) and international sources.

Similarly, they are mandated to disclose the TETfund allocation for the current year, showing clearly the total amount received from the fund.

Additionally, institutions are mandated to reveal the total value of their Endowment fund as recorded at the end of the previous year, and subject to quarterly updates.

Finally, they are mandated to provide the exact value of the Total students population, divided into undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

This is to provide a clear picture of the enrolment and institutional capacity of the institutions.

The Minister further mandated that the information be presented in a user-friendly format for public visibility.

Also, data points should be easily accessible to stakeholders.The mandated changes are to be implemented before May 31, 2025.

The order is aimed at strengthening public trust in tertiary institutions, and to exemplify transparency and accountability.
