The Students Union President of the University of Ibadan, Aweda Bolaji, confirmed that protest would continue for as long as possible.
He made this declaration while speaking with the press as the protest continues relentlessly. He maintained that students would protest till power is restored in the halls of residence [Alexander Brown & Ayodele Falase Halls].
Speaking with the Press, one of the protesters, a fourth-year medical said, “The turnout us massive. We’ve received massive support from those people in UI. So far, the protest has been peaceful”. He added, “We are here to make a statement to the management of the hospital and UI in general that we are tired of suffering in darkness. That’s why we have united on this front to make sure our voices are heard. We don’t plan to stop anytime soon. We will continue to protest until our voices are heard”.
As of press time, there has been no comment from the Hospital Management nor any attempts at engaging students this morning. It remains to be seen what steps are taken next by both the College of Medicine, UI, and UCH Management.
