Bello Hall Reaffirms Its Decision; Says No Going Back On Withdrawal From Jaw War

Following the emergency TLDS senate meeting that was held on Thursday owing to the complaints surrounding the first-round results, Sultan Bello Hall has affirmed its stand to pull out of Jaw War 2021.

In a release made available in the early hours of Saturday, Bello Hall sympathized with its opponent from Nnamdi Azikwe hall and further explained its reasons for maintaining its stance.

The statement read in part: “Notwithstanding, we deeply empathise with the Nnamdi Azikwe hall literary and debating society as we understand their grievances with the unprecedented recalculation and announcement of new scores after the event, if put in their position, we just might have acted the same way.”

“Now, regarding the decision to pull out of Jaw War, please note that this decision was only made after futile attempts had been made to get through to the TLDS leadership on the matter. Pulling out was a unanimous decision reached after consultation with past field marshals and members of our alumni body.”

“Furthermore, the decision was not made on the back of a feeling of entitlement or out of desperation for a victory, because we understand that in a competition, anyone can be a winner.”

“However, we stand by our decision to pull out in the spirit of sportsmanship and for a healthy Jaw War,” the statement added.

Recall that UCJUI had reported that Sultan Bello Literary and debating society had on Thursday declared it intention to pull out of the competition and would not be exploring any engagement whatsoever.
