The Academic Staff Union of Universities, University of Ibadan Chapter (ASUU-UI), has condemned the disruption of the Governing Council’s meeting to wrap up the selection of the next Vice Chancellor of the University by the demonstrations of its sister unions.
This was contained in a special bulletin issued on Friday, October 30th and signed by the Union’s Chairperson, Ayoola Akinwole, and the Secretary, Chris Omoregie.
“The members of ASUU-UI were not part of the protests…,” the Union further stated, adding that it would henceforth vehemently resist any assault, attempt to assault or outright molestations of its members.
In order to protect the sanctity of the University autonomy, ASUU-UI appealed to the Governing Council “that a level playing ground should be given in the appointment of the next Vice Chancellor” of the University.
