WOES AFTER ACT

By Olatidoye Jelil

The pleasure that never lasts
The day that brings less joy than regrets
A day of ununited union and unwanted gifts
A day that goes against the wills of the Lord
This is the day the dangling dignity is sacrificed

What a woe day, the day of unholy things
Valentine, the day sanity is brought to the shrine
To grace the bed of a sheer lunatic and grime
The day the wayward sissies have crops planted
in their bellies by fathers of fatherless offspring

The day when unready children will be banished from heaven
To come and live on unbearably hot earth
That is why, that is why, that is why
Many lives are in Topsy-Turvy and the society upturned

That is why, that is why, that is why
It is uneasy to find sanity in this society
That is why the world is no more at peace
Fathered fatherless children dangling everywhere
Like scattered moths on the olive tree

That is why termites hast eaten deep the marrow of dignity
Because of this exercise of libid called Valentine
All because of this lust called Love
