The Literary and Debating Society of the University of Ibadan (TLDS UI) held its handover ceremony on Sunday, March 8, 2026, inaugurating the 7-member executive.
Following its December 2025 elections, the handover ceremony marked the society’s transition of leadership from the outgoing executives, led by the Babatimehin Peace administration, to the newly elected executives, led by Goodness Akinloye, who would steer the affairs of the society for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The handover ceremony was graced by the University of Ibadan Dean of Students’ Affairs, Prof. Demola Lewis, who is also the Staff Adviser of TLDS UI. In his remarks, he commended the outgoing executives for their dedication and contributions to the growth of the society. He also assured the newly inaugurated executives of the University of Ibadan’s continued commitment to support the society’s activities and initiatives aimed at promoting intellectual engagement and student development.
In addition, in his inaugural remarks, the newly inaugurated President of TLDS UI, Goodness Akinloye, a 400-level Law student, expressed that the new administration is dedicated to expanding opportunities for members through debates, literary activities, competitions, and training sessions, and strategic collaborations that will continue to position TLDS UI as a leading intellectual society within the university.
Finally, the 7-member executives also witnessed the inauguration of the first Assistant General Secretary (AGS) of TLDS UI, Ayomide Faleke, a 200-level Education student. Other executive members include Ebunoluwa Adeosun (Vice President, Debating), a 400-level Science Student, Erinola Daranijo (Vice President, Literary), a 300-level Technology student, and Temitope Ashimiyu (General Secretary), a 500-level Agriculture student, AbdulBaaqi Adeiza Akanbi (Public Relations Officer), a 400-level Science student, and Oladale Afolabi (Treasurer), a 300-level Technology student.
