On Thursday, October 23, 2025, the University of Ibadan’s Students’ Affairs Division, in collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), hosted a sensitization program for Final-year students at the Large Lecture Theatre. The one-day event was organized to enlighten and prepare students for life after graduation, particularly as they look forward to their NYSC service year.

The event was graced by key University officials, including the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, represented by the Dean of Students, Prof. Ademola Lewis, the Deputy Registrar, Mr. S. O. Oyewunmi, and NYSC officials led by Dr. Oludolapo Abraham Ayodeji, Deputy Director of NYSC Mobilization. Student Union Executives and final-year students were also in attendance.

Proceedings commenced at 12 p.m. with the recitation of the National and School anthems, followed by a welcome address from the Dean of Students, who expressed gratitude to all participants.

In his presentation, Dr. Oludolapo Abraham Ayodeji highlighted the objectives of the NYSC program, including fostering discipline, unity, and national integration among Nigerian youths. He explained the eligibility requirements, exemption criteria, and the four cardinal programs of the service year—Orientation Course, Primary Assignment (PPA), Community Development Service (CDS), and the Winding-up/Passing-out Ceremony.

Dr. Ayodeji cautioned students to input accurate personal details during registration, avoid night travels, and list only blood-related individuals as their next of kin instead of romantic partners. He also advised students to maintain a smart and formal appearance during registration and ensure that all credentials are accurate and complete. Married students, he added, would be deployed to serve in the same location as their spouses.

Another NYSC official led a session on the registration process, emphasizing the importance of using only NYSC-accredited cyber cafés and registration centers.

A question-and-answer session followed, where students’ concerns were addressed. With closing remarks from the Dean of Students, Prof. Ademola Lewis, and a vote of thanks delivered by the Deputy Registrar, Mr. S. O. Oyewunmi, the event drew to a close, at 2pm.
