Fatsssa Literary and Debating Society Makes Fatsssaites Proud
The FATSSSA Literary and Debating Society under the presidency of Olamide Shittu which has been participating in several competitions from the beginning of the session has done it again. This time around FATSSSA L and D made Fatsssa and Fatsssaites proud by coming 2nd in the just concluded JCI Annual Inter-Faculty Debate 2014. The event was held on the 14th of November, 2014 at the First Bank Building in Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry. The Debating Society was represented by Miss Aderibigbe Omowumi and Miss Salami Maryam of the department of Political Science.
In other news, the Debating Society also made it into the Semi-Finals of the JAW WARS Debate Competition after thrashing faculty of Agric in the Quarter Finals. They are to meet the Faculty of Technology in the Semi-Finals, which will hold on Tuesday, 18th November. We congratulate and wish them success.
UCJ Holds Preliminary Stages of Professor Egbokhare Inter-Press Debate
The Union of Campus Journalists held the first stage of the Professor Egbokhare inter-press debate on Friday 14th November, 2014 at Kuti Hall SCR between 4pm and 6pm. The second stage is scheduled to hold on Monday 17th November, 2014 at the same time and venue. The topics for the debate are “Negotiation with Terrorists: The right way to go?” and “Gender Equality; a threat to Africa’s Cultural Heritage” respectively.
UI Holds Convocation Ceremony
The University of Ibadan held her 66th convocation ceremony for graduating students of two sessions; 2011/2012 and 2012/2013. The ceremony which commenced since Thursday 13th November, 2014 is due to come to a close on Monday 17th November, 2014. Thursday, 13th November was for Faculty of Arts, Sciences and Medicine while Friday was for Faculty of Technology, Agric and Social Science. Postgraduates Masters held theirs on Saturday, 15th and Monday, 17th, November will be for Postgraduates PhD. The premier university has been unable to organize the convocation for her students for the past two sessions due to strike actions which affected the school calendar.
Social Sciences to Hold Inter-Varsity Discourse
Faculty of The Social Sciences Students Association in conjunction with FATSSSA L&D Society will be holding the 2nd edition of the Inter-Varsity Discourse. The programme was last held during the Bashirat’s led administration in 2010/2011 session. The discourse will involve universities from the six Geo-Political Zones in Nigeria. The date of the programme is Friday, 21st of November, 2014 and the venue is the Large Lecture Theatre of the Social Sciences. The topic of the discourse is “THE ROLE OF YOUTHS IN NATIONAL SECURITY.”
JCI CONCLUDES Inter Faculty Debate
The Junior Chamber International has concluded its annual inter faculty debate. The programme was held on last Friday 14th of November, 2014 at the Firstbank Building, faculty of Agric. Various faculties engaged one another in war of words and in the end, the faculty of Law came first, Faculty of The social sciences took the second position while faculty of Arts went home with the third position.
