Northern Nigeria is region inhabited majorly by the hausa speaking people, whose language is arguably the most widely spoken in the country and beyond. They have a belief that they are born to rule and they have always fought for tops positions in the country, it helps because they the most populous tribe in Nigeria. During the colonial Era the northern region enjoyed a lot of infrastructural development such as good road, water and housing schemes. Agriculture is a major occupation in the north and since the environmental conditions were favourable a lot of crops grew with ease such as groundnut and cotton. The industrial sector was solid too until a number of them folded up. The textile industries are an example.
Unfortunately, education is one area the northerner have failed to take care of. Things were changing, as a lot of school started evolving both public and private many still didn’t see the relevance and went fanatical with religion to worsen the case. These people have now declared a war on education tagging it a sin. How can you use guns and yet say education is a sin? All the sophisticated weapons; bombs, machine guns, telephones, your vehicles are results of education. Everybody is confused now because nobody knows their grouse anymore because they do not have defined targets. They go after elites and masses alike, worker and students are not spared, churches and mosques get attacked, Christians and Muslims lose their lives on regular bases.
Presently, people get to hear news of attacks and taking over of villages on daily bases. Student are getting kidnapped, the Chibok incidence in April saw a numbers of girl kidnapped, recent attacks in November on a school in Potiskom, Yobe and Mubi in Yola state led to the death of many. Bomb blasts now rock like knockout in Christmas. Displacement of people from their properties and place of residence and farm is on the rise. I hope they quickly realize they are destroying where they should call their own, to guard and protect jealously.
It is a shame that a group of people who claim they are born to lead still go ahead to destroy public and private properties of people and even go as far as taking their lives. When everyone dies who or what are you born to lead? How will you rule a set of people who believe so much in education? Violence is never a way to cajole people to practice what you preach. Everyone has a right to choose whatever they want and has a right to make their own mistakes. Quit the violence and forward, we will keep moving. God bless Nigeria and God bless you.
