The Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan is announcing the opening of the second edition of the Sunday Oguntola Essay Contest for submissions by all Campus Journalists of the University of Ibadan.
Sunday Oguntola, who is the Editorial Adviser for UCJ UI, is the Online Editor of The Nation Newspaper.
The Sunday Oguntola Essay contest was created to engage young, talented minds of the University of Ibadan on National issues, and see them proffer solutions. This year’s contest, which is the second edition focuses on the topic, “Nigerian Youths and the 2023 elections”
The deadline for submission of entries is 23;59 WAT, December 20, 2022. Only inducted members of UCJ UI who are members of local press organisations on campus are qualified to participate.
In the first edition of the Sunday Oguntola Essay Competition, Ebube Ezeadum, a student of Medicine and Surgery, won the first prize while Abdul-Habeeb Korede and Odo Christain clinched first runner-up and second runner-up respectively. The total cash prize for the essay has been increased from N60,000 in the previous year to N100,000. The first position will get N50,000 while the second and third will get N30,000 and N20,000 respectively.
For this year’s edition, below are the guidelines:
- Put only your full name and Local Press Organisation in the body of the mail
- The essay must not be more than 1500 words
- Attach the essay as a word document
- Attach a scanned copy of your UCJ UI ID card or a letter signed by the Editor-in-Chief of your local press organisation
