UI TO HOLD CAREER FAIR FOR FINAL YEAR STUDENTS

The management of the University of Ibadan has taken a bold step in reducing the problem of job search for final year students of the school after graduation.

This initiative has been tagged UI Career Fair 2018. It will hold November 6.

The announcement of the Career Fair was made known by the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships (DVC–RISP), Professor Olanike Adeyemo.

Earlier in September, final year students of the school have been asked to submit their curriculum vitae, and 1, 246 applicants have been reported to have registered out of over the 3000 qualified students.

In preparation for the fair, students have been tasked to get their tags which would be the pass to the event.

“You are expected to pick up your tag on Wednesday 24th October and Friday 26th at The Senate Chamber between 9:00am and 4:00pm each day,” a mail sent by the DVC–RISP to all students was quoted to have read.

Companies in the banking sector, oil and gas sector, manufacturing industries have been listed among the industries in partnership with the school for the event.

Unemployment is a major problem Nigerian graduate, majority of whom are youths, face.

According to the 2017 report of the National Bureau of Statistics on youth unemployment, the figure was put at an all-time high 33.10%.
