AVMS EXCOS: THE TIME TO PASS THE TORCH OF LEADERSHIP

Apparently, the members of the Executive council of AVMS will be taking their bows soon. In a matter of days the baton will be changed. There shall now be new Excos to direct the affairs of AVMS. The emergence of good leadership is however dependent on our willingness to vote in aspirants with the best leadership quality.
For those who will be taking forms for different positions, we are interested in people who will drive the wheel of AVMS forward and not backward. We are looking forward to having leaders who will be able to champion the course of the Veterinary Students and protect our rights. We don’t want people who will use the position as a show off or for wanton display of their authority. We want people who are willing to serve and are ready to serve. We want competent hands to man the leadership of AVMS.
The coming days will further provide us the opportunity to drill and test the competence of our leaders during the Manifesto and Press Night. These (Manifesto and Press Night) can help us to identify the men from the boys. Through these, we can test and know those that really have genuine and realistic programme or otherwise. The era of lack of interest in the activities of AVMS should be over, because whatever turns out to be the consequence will be borne by all.
It is imperative to stress that the new Excos should also look inward and fix good plans for AVMS. Let them do the needful at the appropriate time, so that they can enjoy the good will of the people. They should organize programmes that will better the lots of Veterinary students, share packages as at when due and represent the students fairly and stand for their courses etc.
Let us all be fair in our dealings at the time of election and vote for the most credible candidates. I wish us the very best in the election and hope to see another esteemed AVMS Excos in the next few days.
Meanwhile, leadership is not a toy or a game of chance, it is a game of service.
I wish us a fruitful election.
