The popular Queen Elizabeth II hall was in chaos at about 12:30am, on Friday 28th November , 2014 as porters, backed up by security men on night shift refused to open the gate for the girls who were said to have just returned from the Variety night held as part of the events for the Students’ Union week. The porters refused to open the gate stating that it was too late. The porters turned deaf ears on the girls’ pleas, despite the fact that a few members of the Students union executives, some other male students from other halls of residence and some of the school security officers were also there pleading for the girls’ entry. The porters’ continual refusal to open the gate provoked the Students’ union executives and the students that they started demanding that the gate be opened because other female halls have been opened for their occupants including the female hostels outside school, especially the new Maryam’s Hostel. The porters remained adamant and the students too did not keep their cool as they also continued to protest and demand that the gate be opened.
It was reported that the Hall chairperson, Phronesis eventually resolved the issue after much shouting and screaming into the public address system of the hall in the bid to calm both the students outside and those inside that have been woken up by the noise. The students’ Union President, Odesola Victor who was also present, expressed his displeasure and disappointment over the issue. All this lasted for almost an hour, after which peace was restored.
