 CONVOCATION AND FOUNDER’S DAY CEREMONY CONTINUES  UISU CONVENES INTELLECTUAL DISCOURSE  FACULTY OF TECHNOLOGY PROGRESSES IN JAW WAR  JCI ORGANIZES INTER FACULTY DEBATE COMPETITION  DEAN’S CUP TO KICK OFF THIS WEEK  ZIK HALL INTELLECTUAL DISCOURSE POSTPONED THE NEWS IN FULL

CONVOCATION AND FOUNDER’S DAY CEREMONY CONTINUES: The annual convocation and founder’s ceremony University day of of the Ibadan kicked off on Friday, 7th of November, 2014 with the Convocation Jumat service which took place at the Central Mosque, University of Ibadan, followed Convocation by the Church Service at the Chapel of Resurrection, Universityof Ibadan on Sunday, 9th of November, 2014. The weeklong Convocation ceremony also continued with the Convocation Lecture on Tuesday, 11th of November, 2014, titled “Federalism, Democracy and the Future of Nigeria”, which was delivered by the current Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola at International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan. The event then continued with the admission to first degrees and award of Diplomas and Certificates to graduating students on Thursday, 13th of November and Friday, 14th of November, 2014 at the International Conference Centre. Saturday, 15th of November, 2014, was the award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Admission into higher degrees, it was also convened at the International Conference Centre. On Sunday, 16th of November, University of Ibadan also witnessed Nobel Laureate and an alumnus of the school, Professor Wole Soyinka, at the Arts Theatre, University of Ibadan, a drama titled ALAPATA APATA, written by him, was acted as part of the programs for the event. The convocation ceremony would still continue on Monday, 17th of November, as Chief Oluwole Olanipekun, SAN, Emeritus Professor Theophilus Ogunlesi, Emeritus Professor Tekena Tamuno, Otunba Mike Adenuga and Professor Wole Soyinka would all be awarded honourary degrees. Admission of higher degrees (Doctorate) would also be conducted at the International Conference Centre, Universty of Ibadan. Not leaving out the Convocation Luncheon that would take place at the Vice-Chancellor’s Lodge.

UISU CONVENES INTELLECTUAL DISCOURSE: The Student Union of the University of Ibadan organized an intellectual discourse that took place at the Student Representative Council Chambers, on Tuesday, 11th of November, 2014. The program which was conducted from the Public Relations Office of the Union was themedAdamawa State Impeachment Saga; A Litany of Irregularities?” The speakers of the event were Dr. J.O. Akintayo of the Faculty of Law and Professor O. Odeku of the Faculty of Pharmacy. After the speeches were delivered, there was also a question and answer session, whereby students were able to deliberate on the theme of the discourse. It was an impactful and educative program as students were able to share their own views about the Impeachment saga in Adamawa state.

FACULTY OF TECHNOLOGY PROGRESSES IN JAW WAR: The rebirth of the University of Ibadan Central Literary and Debating Society’s public speaking event otherwise known as Jaw war witnessed Faculty of Technology move to the semifinal of the contest, at the expense of Faculty of Pharmacy. The debate competition has continued to display the public speaking talents and prowess among students of the University of Ibadan. The preliminaries took place at the First Bank building, Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry. The competition involves both representatives from Faculties and Halls of Residence. The final of the debate contest would take place at Trenchard Hall, on 26th of November, 2014 by 4:00pm and has been themed “The World on a Scale”.

JCI ORGANIZES INTER FACULTY DEBATE COMPETITION: Junior Chamber International, University of Ibadan chapter, on Friday, 14th of November, 2014, organized theth edition of the Dr. Lanre Bello Inter faculty Debate Competition at the First Bank building, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ibadan. The topic of the debate was “Zoning in Political Parties has Good Prospects for Democracy in Nigeria” and it involved different faculties in the University of Ibadan, including our own dear faculty. At the end of the day, Faculty of Law won the debate competition, while Faculty of the Social Sciences and Faculty of Arts came second and third respectively.

DEAN’S CUP TO KICK OFF THIS WEEK: The Annual Faculty of Technology’s Dean’s Cup would be starting on Tuesday, 18th of November, 2014 with two matches. The first match would be between Petroleum Engineering and Food Technology, while the second match would be between Industrial and Production Engineering and Agricultural and Environmental Engineering. ZIK HALL INTELLECTUAL DISCOURSE POSTPONED: The much anticipated Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall Intellectual Discourse which was due to take place at the Junior Common Room, Nnamdi Azikiwe hall, on Friday, 14th of November, 2014, has been remorsefully postponed. In a chat with the Hall Chairman, Mr Olamiposi Adeyemi, he said that the discourse could not hold due to logistics issues. The program is aimed at awakening the political consciousness among students of the University of Ibadan and would include various comrades from different spheres of life come to discuss the theme, “Constitutionality and Legality of Tambuwal’s defection: Worth Impeachment?” Nevertheless
