The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan has approved a lecture-free day and a half-day of lectures to enable students to participate in activities marking the 2026 Students’ Union Week.
The approval was contained in an internal memorandum from the University’s Student Affairs Division addressed to Deans of Faculties.
According to the memorandum, Thursday, September 17, has been approved as a lecture-free day, while Friday, September 18, will be observed as a half-day of lectures.
The approval followed a request from the Students’ Union to create room for students to participate in activities scheduled for the Union Week.
Among the activities scheduled for Thursday is Ojude UI, which is billed to hold at the Old Stadium, Students’ Union Building (SUB). Friday’s programme includes the Vice-Chancellor’s Marathon and an Inter-House Sports Exhibition.
The Dean of Students, Prof. Demola Lewis, consequently urged Deans of Faculties to communicate the approval to Heads of Departments and lecturers across the University.
The arrangement is expected to allow students to participate in the Students’ Union Week activities without clashes with their academic engagements.
