The Association of Student Communicators (ASCOM) of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, has released its inaugural magazine, PrimeScope, making the publication available electronically to students across Ibadan.
The 34-page magazine, the first of its kind from ASCOM Poly Ibadan, marks a significant milestone for student journalism within the Department of Mass Communication at The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
Its publication represents an effort to move ASCOM Press beyond routine campus reporting into a broader editorial platform encompassing journalism, education, current affairs, leadership, career development, lifestyle and visual storytelling.
At the heart of the inaugural edition is the theme, “Educated but Unemployed: Is Nigeria’s Degree System Failing Its Students?”
The magazine explores the economic realities confronting Nigerian graduates while bringing new insight into the changing relationship between higher education, employability and the current reality of artificial intelligence in the job market.
Its editorial content cuts across six major sections: Education & Knowledge, Current Affairs, Innovation & AI Impact, Special Feature, Lifestyle & Fun, and Career & Opportunities. Together, the sections offer readers a mixture of analysis, features, commentary, practical insights and creative content.
With the launch of PrimeScope, ASCOM Poly Ibadan joins the growing effort to broaden the scope of campus journalism beyond institutional reporting and provide students with platforms for critical inquiry, creativity and meaningful engagement with issues affecting their generation.
The efforts in publication and dissemination of this magazine also form part of UCJ UI’s ongoing collaborative efforts with press organisations within its immediate locale. This is done with the broader aim of fostering stronger relationships among campus press bodies and contributing to the growth and improvement of campus journalism.
