By Idowu Deborah

Following Monday’s protest by the Non-Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) at the University of Ibadan, a meeting was held between the unions and the university management over the issues earlier raised.

The unions had staged a protest at the Tekena Tamuno Building, UI, over alleged victimisation of members, the review of the scheme of service, and other institutional concerns.

Speaking after the meeting, a union representative confirmed that the grievances were formally presented to the management, including allegations of victimisation, concerns over the implementation of the scheme of service, failure to forward the report of the 2021 visitation panel, and issues relating to campus security.

According to him, the Vice-Chancellor assured the unions that the cases of staff members allegedly victimised would be looked into. He also promised to provide feedback on the matter by Monday.

On security concerns raised during the meeting, the response from management was described as positive by the union representative, while other issues were also reportedly addressed.

The unions stated that the outcome of the engagement was largely positive, expressing cautious optimism over the management’s response to their demands.

As of the time of filing this report, further developments are being awaited following the scheduled follow-up timeline given by the university management.
