The maiden edition of the Sigma Sport Festival is set to begin today, 16th September 2025 with a novelty match between the University of Ibadan football team and the Obafemi Awolowo University Football team in both the male and female categories.
The Competition, usually organized by the Sigma Club UI, has now been modified from its usual football only tournament to include other Sports.This year’s edition will feature alongside football, Table Tennis, Chess and Scrabble and participation for all sports has been opened to all students.While the football competitions in the male and female categories would hold at the Old SUB Pitch and Zik Maracana respectively, Table Tennis, Chess and Scrabble will take place at the SUB Foyer.While the Table Tennis Category is set to begin this Saturday, 20th September 2025, the Chess and Scrabble category would kick off on the 23rd of September 2025.
As for the football category, all rules from the previous editions remain the same.This year’s football tournament would see 16 male participating teams and 5 Female teams.

Soccer For All FC (SFA), Rebels FC, TomTom FC, Bluelock FC, Clippers FC, Tech Road Boys FC, Da-Ebs FC, Blaze FC, Vipers FC, United Superstars FC, Galacticos FC, Bluewaves FC, Forza FC, Voterra FC, Elites XI FC, Epic Alliance FC
For the female teams, there are: Soccer For All Femini, Joga Bonito FC, Phoenix FC, Midway Storm, Spark Kickers
The Male category would be played in a single straight knockout phase while the female category would hold in a league format with the top two teams playing in the finals.
FixturesIn a draw held at the SRC Chambers on Monday, 15th September 2025, the full first round fixtures for both the male and female categories were confirmed.For the Male Category, the competition would begin with Clippers v Tech Road Boys FC on Wednesday at 1pm.The other fixtures include:SFA v Rebels,TomTom v Bluelock, Da-ebs v Blaze, Vipers v United Superstars, Galacticos v Bluewaves, Voterra v Forza, Elite XI v Epic Alliance
For the female category, SFA Femini will kick things off with Midway Storm while Phoenix will take on Joga Bonito.Both matches would take place at the Zik Maracana on Friday by 2pm.
The Opening Ceremony of the Sigma Sport Festival has been set to hold at 1pm today, 16th September 2025 with an 11-aside game between the University’s Football team and OAU’s football team in both the male and female categories.
