MBBS Defeats Petroleum Engineering on Penalties to Reach Second Consecutive Seals Cup Finals

The department of Medicine and Surgery on Wednesday 18th of June 2025, beat Petroleum Engineering 5-4 on penalties to reach their second consecutive Seals Cup Finals.

The much talked about game between Ibadan medicine men and the boys from the department of Oil and Gas saw Petroleum Engineering come in as underdogs. The match began with high intensity from both teams as they bought went toe-to-toe in the search of an opening goal. The deadlock was finally broken in the 5th minute of the first half by Petroleum Engineering. Off from a cross from Petroleum Engineering’s box, Alien fired a wide range shot from the center half into the MBBS box. A blunder from the MBBS goalie, Emerald, saw the ball go straight into the back of the net to give Petroleum Engineering the opening goal of the game.

The Petroleum Engineering lead was however shortlived as the game was leveled 4 minutes later. Capitalizing on the Petroleum Engineering goalkeeper error, Karbon did not waste time in burying the ball into the back of the net in what was a beautiful strike.

The first half continued with more intention from both teams in the search of a winner. MBBS tried to take the lead through SirDave in the closing minutes of the first half, but his efforts went inches wide. Both sides couldn’t find another goal and so went into halftime with the 1-1 scoreline.

Second half came with more intensity than the first as MBBS were in search of a winner. SirDave was subbed off for MBBS, with Hollandia being brought on in the game in the quest for goals. Petroleum Engineering also made substitutions of their own as Mayowa and Wizzy were brought in to solidify play. The closing minutes of the second half saw a double chance for MBBS as Karbon made a run for goal. His effort however, was saved by the Petroleum Engineering Goalkeeper.

A Karbon’s last minute effort was again, saved by the Goalkeeper and after regulation time, the game was still stuck at a 1-1 draw. This meant that the game was to be decided on penalties.

The Penalty shootout was as intense as regular time as both teams scored their first penalty. However, Zico of Petroleum Engineering had his penalty saved by goalkeeper Prestige in what was the second spot-kick for the Oil and Gas boys. MBBS went on to score their remaining 4 penalties with Prestige scoring MBBS’ first and Gerald sending the Goalkeeper the wrong way to seal the win for the Ibadan medicine boys.

MBBS would now face the department of Human Kinetics Education in their Second consecutive final as the defending Champions seek to win a back-to-back seals Cup title.Petroleum Engineering on the other hand, would have a third place date with the department of Civil Engineering on Friday 20th June 2025.
