Nice Linus, a 300 level Law student has written a petition against what she called “an unconstitutional exercise of power by the deputy registrar” on Wednesday, 4th of March, 2025.
The letter was written to address her recent disqualification from the Student’s representative council and her removal as the majority leader of the Obafemi Awolowo hall constituency by the deputy registrar in a Memorandum that was sent out on Tuesday, 3rd of March, 2025.
In the petition, she included the background of the incident that was termed “disciplinary actions” and what led to her subsequent removal from the house and her disqualification.
According to Linus, the Chairman claimed her election was an “oversight,” but she argued that the Students’ Union Constitution only disqualifies students who have been found guilty of gross misconduct through a formal disciplinary process.
Linus emphasized that since no ruling has been made on her case, her removal was unlawful.
Linus also demanded the removal of Mr. Musa as Chairman of the Electoral Commission, citing his gross ignorance of the law governing the Students’ Union Electoral Commission and his inability to properly handle student elections.
The University of Ibadan administration is yet to respond to the petition.
