The Lawliwood Society is set to hold its annual stage production on February 28th 2025 at the Wole Soyinka Theatre.
Tagged Virtuoso 6.0, the production will include two stage plays -one tragedy and one comedy- in one night.
The tragedy, Aluta which was written by Ayeye Toluwalope explores the event leading to the July 10 1999 killings in OAU.
With a focus on issues such as cultism, student unionism and fee hike struggles the play hopes to bring a historical view and perspective into contemporary issues.
“While ‘Aluta’ captures the OAU tragedy in 1999, its themes is all-rounded: student unionism, the weight of leadership, and the eternal question of how far one should go in pursuit of justice.” The director of the play, Toluwaleke Owonifaari told UCJ.
The second play to be staged on the same night is a comedy written by Oreoluwa Olorode and directed by Onamade Seunbabara. Ponzi which is also a didactic play focuses on the issue of fraud.
