I guess it is in situations like this that I have to point out from the start that I am in no way a misogynist or totally against women fighting for their rights. I am just a person who wishes a militating group of societal revolutionists would take the time to reconsider their stance. I personally do not believe the supposed inequality exists.
There are double standards everywhere and most of them seem to be to the detriment of women. This has, over the course of a century, caused the birth of a movement – feminism. Let us discuss those double standards one by one. First, ladies believe there are not enough job opportunities for the womenfolk. They cry foul whenever women appear to be shut out of certain employment chances. Of course, this is injustice. But it is injustice borne out of another preceding one. What do I mean? Let us look at it like this: traditionally, the man is expected to provide for his family and even the bachelor is expected to get rich by all means in other to be considered fit enough for ‘carrying’ a wife. Our culture lays much emphasis on that. We have many women even in this university, whose ultimate goal is to marry a rich man. Unmarried women are looking for financially-upright suitors while the married ones place a man’s worth on his ability to provide for his family even if the woman herself has a high-paying job. Tell me, who should be open more to job opportunities if not the male gender? As long as a female university undergraduate can open her mouth to say that she ultimately aspires to marry a rich man without being cautioned, men definitely need the jobs more.
Women also cry out that they are being denied enough leadership space. They claim the male-dominated political community is hostile towards a feminine energy. They argue that women have as much right and ability to rule as men. They claim society has favored men more in politics. Well, I am going to assume that these women are not interested in using religion as the basis of their assertions as that would be self-contradictory. The society, for me, is an even playing ground. It is not like the society that has brought about all of this is some external factor which dictates our lives and actions. The society consists of men andwomen! Prior to the creation of any governmental state, men and women had an equal playing field to climb the tree of power and pluck the fruit of dominion. And then men, through their physical and mental strength, were able to out-do the women and till today, it still happens. Let us not pretend that some big daddy from nowhere unfairly gave the male gender the power to rule. We men earned our place, we deserve where we are because we have done a lot to contribute to the society. Look at fields such as physics, philosophy, religion, military and so on, to which men have overwhelmingly contributed. No one shut women away from greatness and whatever perceived social injustices you feminists believe exists, it is a creation of both men and women themselves. If women were indeed supposed to be better than men in ruling, then why are they not in power?
Let us not also forget the critical issue which feminists try so much to overlook. The crime and justice system is very unfair to men but superbly lenient towards women. A particular crime which a man could be convicted of could be pardoned in a lady’s case. When a woman claims rape, she is believed. When a man claims rape, he is ridiculed. Also, in cases of divorce and child custody wars, the women are almost automatically favored. Women get so much appreciation when it comes to the child aspect. But feminists would not acknowledge that.
I know that women still feel cheated in a number of ways: a promiscuous guy is worshipped while the girl is shamed and a female breadwinner is warned against breaking up her family. But when you flip the same coin over, you get such scenarios as this: a male virgin is labeled a social geek and a man who is not the breadwinner is made to feel emasculated and practically worthless. I believe the equality is crystal-clear. The female gender has much more powers than they admit. There are many things women can do that men aren’t allowed to. Women can flaunt their sexuality freely, they are more likely to be granted favor (from either gender), they are free to hit men without fear of reciprocation and they almost always get what they want. I conclude thus: if women want to erase these double standards (which only serve to limit their already-enormous powers) and hypocritically take away the achievements and few privileges of the male sex, then they are free. If they want to propagate hatred of men, then they can go ahead. But at least I know that women have much more privileges than they care to admit.
