The Faculty of Dentistry emerged winner at the 13th Lanre Bello Interfaculty Debate, held on November 8, 2024, at the First Bank Building, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ibadan.
The event, organized by the Junior Chamber International Nigeria, University of Ibadan (JCIN UI), brought together faculties across the university to debate the theme, “Empowering a Sustainable Future: The Intersection of Accessible Education and Technology.”
After rigorous rounds of debate and oratory sessions, the Faculty of Dentistry triumphed with a total score of 75 in the debate category, solidifying its place as the overall winner with an aggregate score of 68.5. The Faculty of Clinical Sciences followed closely as the first runner-up with an aggregate of 68, while Science took the second runner-up position with a score of 66.5
The event also featured thought-provoking debates on topics such as the role of educational technology in affordable education, the implications of AI in the curriculum, and the value of online degrees in Nigeria’s job market. Each faculty’s representative engaged in intellectual exchanges judged by an esteemed panel consisting of Mr. Akin Tella, Professor Remi Aiyede, and Dr. Ademola Lewis.
In his keynote address titled “Take the Risk and Do Bold Things,” Mr. Kelechi Uchenna encouraged students to be daring and resilient, saying, “If you can think it through, you can do it.”
“Inconvenience yourself now so that you can be convenient in the future,”he concluded.
