JUST IN: SRC Overrules Suspension Recommendation, Pardons SU VP For Absence During Disciplinary Invitation

The 10th Assembly of the Students’ Representative Council, University of Ibadan, at its ongoing sitting, today Saturday, 17th February, 2024, has overruled the initial recommendation presented by the Disciplinary Committee, and in its stead moved that the Vice President, Ogunsesan Nafisat be pardoned.

Earlier on, in its three-page report titled “RESOLUTION OF THE 6th DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE MEETING”, the Disciplinary Committee had noted it had sat to investigate and discuss disciplinary actions regarding Mr. Oluwole Ayomide Joy (House Secretary of University of Ibadan Students’ Union); Mr. Erinfolami Hammed (Treasurer of University of Ibadan Students’ Union); Miss. Ogunsesan Nafisat (Vice President of University of Ibadan Students’ Union), as forwarded by the Students’ Representative Council resolution regarding matters that arose from Finem Anime, the Students’ Union End of The Year Party.

According to the Disciplinary Committee, “It was discovered that the Vice President in violation of Article XXVII (1e-iii) was absent without a justifiable reason which was an hindrance to the investigation. However, as there would be no prospective investigation, she is to be suspended for a period of two weeks between 19th February and 4th March, 2024”.

Responding to the issue, the Vice President, Ogunsesan Nafisat noted that she had responded to the invitation explaining her unavoidable unavailability, as of the time she was invited.

The Assembly in its final resolve, after hours-long debate on the floor of the House, moved to pardon the Vice President.

It should be noted that the main matter of concern was in regards to the organization of the event without the approval or the Students’ Representative Council knowledge of a held event; which was the End of the Year Party organized in December, 2023.

Also, in discuss, the case concerns the Financial Secretary, as he was invited for the disbursement of a sponsorship fund received into the Union’s account, but without an approval or knowledge of the Finance Committee before its later disbursement.
