We Identify With Students — Host Says As SU Opens Food Drive

The University of Ibadan Students’ Union, has on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, distributed its first batch of the UISU Food Initiative Drive to selected beneficiaries.

The disbursement event, which held at the SRC Chamber, Kunle Adepeju Memorial Students’ Union building, had in attendance the Dean of Students, Professor A. Abiona, members of the Students’ Union Executive Council, the Speaker of UI’SRC, Rt. Hon. Omotunde Olamide as well as student beneficiaries of the scheme.

In his address, the Dean, Professor Abiona commended the Union for fostering the initiative, while describing the joint leadership of the Students’ Union as a ‘united team’. He also appreciated Beulah Olufemi Ayanfe  Adeoye Trust (BOAAT) for rendering the food aids.

Speaking at the venue, the Students’ Union President, Samuel Samson Tobiloba noted that the initiative was set up to identify with and assist indigent students.

“Today is February 14, and we understand how significant the day is, as a day set aside to celebrate love. And that is why this specific date was picked for the distribution of these food items to selected indigent students, which we expect would be the first batch out of a couple of other batches that we’re planning towards” he said.

“It is just to identify and tell students that we identify with them, support them, we know that we are giving them will not last them for a week, or a semester, but it will take them for one, two or three days. And we are just saying that we understand that the situation of the country is really challenging, and that as a Union, we identify with them” the President added.

Speaking on behalf of the donating organisation, Beulah Olufemi Ayanfe  Adeoye Trust (BOAAT), the Personal Assistant to Barrister Beulah Adeoye, who is an alumnus of the University, Miss Halimah Jimoh noted that the organization’s goal is to render selfless assistance to the Nigerian public.

“We are an organization that help the less privileged with food, education and other support. BOAAT has touched a lot of lives since it started, empowering lives and inspiring many others. Our main mission is to help people, we believe in giving back to the society”.
