The Rotaract Club, University of Ibadan chapter and Federal College of Agriculture Ibadan chapter, on Friday, 27th October, 2023 jointly organized an inter-school debate and quiz competition for selected public secondary schools within the Ibadan metropolis.
The event with the theme, “The Power of Expression” featured debate, career talk, spelling bee, motivational speech, awarding of prizes and was held at the Faculty of Pharmacy Auditorium, University of Ibadan.
In her welcome address, the Rotaract Literary and Debate Committee Chairperson for the event, Dasaolu Oluwabukunmi appreciated all invited schools who made it to the event, while also extending the esteem to teachers who must have concerted training efforts on students towards the event.
“I’m sure we are all really prepared. So I wish all of you best of luck. Also, to our amazing teachers, I want to welcome you for coming and for supporting your students.”
Participating high schools at the event are Emmanuel College High, Abadina College, Methodist Grammar School, Bodija International College, Ojoo High School, and Anglican Commercial School, Ibadan.
Owoeye Oluwasemilore and Tunmisola Mayogun, who represented Bodija International College emerged ultimate winner of the debate competition with a point of 81.3%, against Abadina College team which bagged first-runner up in the same debate with a 69% points.
Methodist Grammar School, Bodija emerged the topmost winner of the spelling bee competition, against Emmanuel College High which emerged second.
Another highlight at the event had the Campus Director, Heroes and Heroines Initiative, Ikyoon Collins discuss a list of steps to take in acquiring professional life and for progressing into different career paths.
“Things you should consider before getting a career path include interest, possible assessment of the career, passion, fulfillment, values, abilities, among others.”
Ebunoluwa Dorcas, the Rotaract UI Chairperson, as well as Tijani Nafisat, Rotaract Club Federal College of Agriculture awarded plaques and prizes to final and runner-up winners at the event.
