Atelewo Opens Application For Third Prize For Yoruba Literature

Atelewo, an Ibadan-based literary platform, has officially opened the window for the fourth edition of its annual prize for literature.

This edition, according to a statement released by the organization, is open to previously unpublished works in Yorùbá language.

“The Atelewo Prize for Literature is instituted to address some of the problems–committed publishers, distribution, cultivating invested readerships, etc.–that creative writing in Yorùbá faces.

“The Atelewo Prize for Yoruba literature intends to rejuvenate the more than a century-old, vibrant, universally praised, and unquestionably rich Yorùbá literary culture,” the organization wrote in its statement.

On cash prizes, in a statement credited to the organization’s Co-founder, Oredola Ibrahim, he explained that the organization will “unveil ONE overall winner. This winner will receive Two Fifty Thousand Naira (N250,000) and an opportunity to publish hard copies of their manuscript with us.”

“We are also going to be selecting one best work in the rest of the categories. And all three of them will receive cash prizes of a hundred thousand (N100,000) Naira each,” he added.
