Students To Get Internship, Job Opportunities As UI Signs MOU with Infinix

The management of the University of Ibadan has signed a memorandum of understanding with Calcare Development Nigeria Limited, a subsidiary of Trassion Holdings, the manufacturer of Infinix phones.

The MOU was signed by both parties in a meeting held on Thursday, September 22, in the boardroom of the office of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Adebowale.

According to the document made available to UCJ UI, students of the University stand to gain internship and job opportunities, entrepreneurial and technical skills, and social networks, among others, at Trassion subsidiaries.

The arrangement also includes a registered social club on the university campus to be known as ‘Infinix Club’.

It is stated in the MOU that the company shall “offer scholarship and funding opportunities to active members of the Infinix Club;

“Offer employment opportunities to active and dedicated members of the Infinix Club who graduate with grades (i.e. 1st Class or Second Class Upper Division);

“Award company’s product on yearly basis to members of staff who make intellectual contributions towards the success of the Infinix Club.”

On its part, the University shall provide guidance, support, workable space/room with amenities, and permit the club to operate on Campus.

Activities of the club shall include, but not limited to Music and dance competition, Arts and Culture competition, User Interface design and software development competitions, job fairs, career and training sessions, and coding and robotics training, among others.

The MOU was signed by members of the University Management, including the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellors, the Dean of Students, and the Director of ICT; while representatives from Transsion signed for the company.

The Vice Chancellor welcomed the team from Transsion and expressed his support for their plans for students of the university.

“I’m excited because you’ve told us that your focus is the youths. When you look at the population in Nigeria and Africa, a large percentage are youths,” he exclaimed.

The Dean of students, Prof. Adekeye Abiona also expressed his delight in the arrangement.

“I am happy about it. Particularly for the plans for indigent students, and other interesting offers for all students.”

The students were represented at the meeting by members of the Students’ Union Executive Council, led by the President, Adeyinka Adewole (Mascot).
