UI Student Wins N1m, Laptop At National Essay Competition 

A 200L student of Political Science, University of Ibadan Ayotomiwa Elesho has emerged winner of 6th edition of the National undergraduate essay competition of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB).

Elesho, told UCJ UI that he came across the opportunity via the microblogging app, Twitter, and approached the contest with the determination to win.

He said: “I was simply surfing through Twitter in late July when I came across the flier announcing the 6th Edition of the NCDMB Annual Essay Contest.

“The topic, ‘Strategizing For Transformation To Clean Energy In The Changing Global Energy Landscape: The NCDMB Intervention’, caught my attention because I believed that I knew some strategies for transformation to clean energy that I could share with the NCDMB.

“I delved into further research, articulated my points, wrote the essay, and submitted it. Thankfully, my essay was one of the ten best essays shortlisted among over 2000 entries for an interactive assessment (defense), which held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.”

At the final stage held in Yenogoa where he was announced the winner. According to him, the organisers presented him an award plaque, a laptop, and a million naira dummy cheque, while he presented a summary of his essay.

“I was called to the stage, while the song, ‘Stand up for the Champions’ blared from the speakers and reverberated in the massive hall. I received a standing ovation, and I felt happy.

“I was presented with an award plaque, a laptop, and a million naira board. I went on to give an acceptance speech and finally gave a summary of my essay.

“We then visited a radio station for an interview, and finally visited the 17-story NCDMB Tower in the heart of Yenagoa, Bayelsa.”, he added.
